Dichroic Glass

Dichroic - two coloured glass

Dichroic Glass is a multi-layer coating placed on glass by using a highly technical vacuum deposition process. Quartz Crystal and Metal Oxides are vaporised onto the surface of the glass in the form of a crystal structure.

Light will either be transmitted through the glass or reflected back causing an array of different colours in a piece of glass. Due to the variations in the firing process, results can never be exactly reproduced - therefore each piece is individual.

Derek Hayward then designs, cuts and fuses this glass in his own kiln, to produce his stunning art.

We use sterling silver bails which have been designed by us and are sourced from a member of the British Jewellery Association and are attached using specialised epoxy glue that is designed to be used for jewellery or glass only.

Designed to be worn with a Chain or Micro-fibre cord.

The colours used in Derek's work is strongly influenced by the sea and the beautiful country-side around his South Devon home - designed so that you can benefit from the reflected and transmitted colours of the glass.

In recent pieces Derek has used Luminous glass to give an added dimension to his work.
